Questions 1-2 of 2:
- I'm a 48-year-old in reasonably good shape. I want to be able to do the splits when I'm 50 (it's a crazy dream I have). Is there a video or something I can follow at home since I don't have a lot of spare time? How many minutes per day should I devote to this? I do jog three to four times a week and stretch for about 10 minutes afterward. Thanks!

I don't know of any videos that teach the splits but. it takes time, patience and stretched hamstrings. If you did splits as a youth, it may be easier to achieve this goal as the hips are connected with dense fascia (connective tissue). If stretched out as a youth, it is easier. Ten minutes of stretching is a good amount of time for an end of a workout for an all over stretch but you will need to dedicate as much tme as you can in the hamstrings area ( large muscle in the back of the upper leg) as possible. Perhaps while watching TV or in some down time, Lying on the flooron your back with one leg , straigtened in the air holding behind the leg is a good lying stetch. You can use a band looped over your foot, pulling to assist, holding for at least 60 seconds or more. Sitting , with legs apart, stretch out and over reaching forward over each leg. Standing, raise on leg placing your ankle supported on a steady object...fence, outside or back of sofa, inside and lean forward extended out over the leg. Stretch to the point of tension, never pain. There are great yoga poses that stetch hamstrings and open the hips, like the pidgeon pose. Find a yoga class to help with poses. Consistency is the key. Keep stretching and good luck with your goals. « less
